Museum archives currently contains about 1800 documents in the forms of books,
magazines, newspapers, studies, articles, certificates, official documents, notebooks,
both in Turkish and other languages. The documents are mainly organized under the
following subject headings:
1. Ottoman Archives of the Prime Ministry (BOA):
Ottoman Archives contains about 150 million documents. During his
research in BOA, M. Hakan GÜRÜNEY was able to search through about 3 million
documents since 2001 and have obtained copies of about 900 documents about Tenedos.
There are also over 150 original documents within the collection of the museum.
These documents are continuing to be translated from Ottoman to modern Turkish by
M. Hakan GÜRÜNEY.
2. Annals of the State of Cezair-i Bahr-i Sefid Vilayeti:
Cezair-i Bahr-i Sefid is the name of the Ottoman state which includes the
Ottoman Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Each book of these annals
describes the events of one year. These documents provide information
about governmental structures, list of government workers, local geography
and history, historical artifacts, commercial and economic activities, census,
schools, libraries and more. They were printed 20 times between 1870 and
1903. Our collection has the originals of the two (1st and
19th) and copies of the rest of the annals, and all have been
translated to Turkish by M. Hakan GÜRÜNEY.
3. Republic Period Archive:
There are 30 copies of several communication documents about Tenedos starting
from Independence War period (1919-1922), collected from government archives
and private sources. Over 300 original documents from the same periods in
various subjects are also in the museum collection.
4. Ottoman Commercial Annals (Annuaire Oriental du Commerce):
Published between 1880 and 1945, these annals were prepared to provide
information to entrepreneurs about commercial activities and trade centers
within the country. Our research in various private and official sources
yielded 19 of those documents that contained information about Tenedos.
Documents in the archive are photocopies of French originals. All have been
translated to Turkish
5. Documents of Italian Consulate:
Hundreds of original correspondence between Italian Consulate of Istanbul
and Antonio Gersaglia, who has served in Tenedos between 1877 and 1905 as the Italian Consulate Agent.
6. Panayot SARI (TAKİ):
Hundreds of correspondence, receipts, labels of Taki Vinery from a period of
1870 to 1965, during which Taki Vinery was one of the most important manufacturers
in the Island. These documents were donated by Taki’s wife Madam Stefania and his
son Mr. Niko.
7. Aral Vinery:
Aral Vinery used to be one of the most important vineries of Turkey. Documents of
this company are donated by Mr. Ahmet ARAL.
8. Apostal GANGA:
Transportation related documents of Apostal GANGA, who was one of the known boat captains of Tenedos.
9. Mustafa KAYNAR:
Mustafa KAYNAR worked as the Elementary Education Director of Tenedos between 1963 and 1985. He
has donated his documents and samples of newspapers he has published in Tenedos.
