Verbal History Studies
VERBAL HISTORY ARCHIVE OF TENEDOS:
Video and audio interviews of the persons or their relatives listed below were made by M. Hakan GURUNEY. Their life stories, family trees and histories, activities in Tenedos, witnessed events, and memories have been captured in recordings. All recordings are saved into CD media, made backup copies and stored in special containers to ensure their safety into the future. All verbal interviews have been written down by Gülfidan BORAN in MS-Word format.
I have a sorrow beyond description for several people we have lost in recent times. Some we have lost never having the opportunity to interview due to the commotion of daily life. Yet with some others I have postponed the interviews as if we had a guarantee for tomorrow, and thus losing them caused a great grief. They took away all their memories, stories and knowledge with them. Not being remembered by anybody, they may be forgotten forever after some time. The one that always going to hurt me was losing Irfan ARAL whom I have visited numerous times with Muhtar Mehmet for an interview, yet he always postponed it to the next visit, and today in my hand I have only his obituary from the newspaper. He was a living source of local history as the most senior member of the Aral family, which has been a leader in Tenedos’ viniculture and wine history. Every time I get ready for a new interview, I remember him with his warm smile, telling me “I am tired Hakan, let’s do it tomorrow” and inevitably I wait for tomorrow. The final tomorrow has now become the eternity.
